OUR STORY

It all started in Totnes, Devon. Over a succulent ale in the depths of winter, two friends, Daniel and Guy, set out on a simple mission: to make the best biltong in the UK. What started as an idea shared over a drink soon became something much bigger, and Manna Biltong was born.

OUR VISION

We felt there was a gap in the market for biltong that was genuinely high quality, made with great ingredients and without all the unnecessary nasties found in many supermarket products.

We wanted to create something that was delicious enough to feel like a treat, but made naturally to fit into an active, health-conscious lifestyle.

After plenty of experimenting, tasting and refining, we developed our own recipe using quality British beef and wild venison, carefully balanced spices and no unnecessary preservatives or nitrates.

QUALITY

For us, quality starts with the ingredients. We believe in buying British and local, supporting local producers and businesses, and being completely transparent about what goes into our food. We want Manna to stand for great produce, honest food and a product we are genuinely proud to put our names to.

ABOUT US

Daniel moved to Devon in 2023 to study regenerative food and farming, developing a passion for how we produce, source and eat our food.

Guy comes from a background working in professional kitchens and... psychology, funnily enough. Together, we've combined those different passions to build something we believe in.

AMBITION

Our ambition is bigger than biltong. We want to help people discover how simple, nourishing and enjoyable a more primal approach to food can be. We're on a mission to create something amazing, healthy and various delicious snacks that fit into real life — whether you're heading out for a hike, grabbing something on the go, or simply enjoying a pint at the pub.

Manna Biltong is about keeping food simple, delicious, and creating something that's too good not to share.

wHAT IS BILTONG?

History

Biltong comes from Southern Africa, where drying meat helped people keep it for journeys and times when fresh meat was harder to store. Its history draws on generations of food-preserving traditions, and its precise beginnings are still debated. Even the name has a story: biltong is thought to combine the Dutch words bil (rump or upper leg) and tong (tongue), describing the shape of the strips.

A satisfying, protein-rich snack

Biltong provides protein, and because drying removes water, that protein is concentrated by weight compared with fresh meat. The exact nutritional values vary with the meat, how much fat is left on and how dry the biltong is. Salt is part of the curing process, so levels vary by recipe too; check the pack for the nutrition information for the biltong you choose.

Enjoy it your way

Biltong is delicious just as it is: tear open a pack and enjoy. It also brings a savoury kick to a cheeseboard, sandwich or salad, and makes a tasty topping for eggs or soup.
